By Erik Gunnar Asplund
Located in Värnamo, SE
GA7 is a classical globe luminaire and consists of a mouthblown, three layered opaque glass.
Originally designed to enlighten the corridors of the basement at the Woodland Cemetary.
The frosted glass in collaboration with the centered light source creates a uniform, general and diffuse light, but with an opening in the glass to also create a direct lightdistribution.
GA7 is manufactured as a fixed luminaire, but can also be hanged from cable.
Details in either brass or coated.
Erik Gunnar Asplund.
Erik Gunnar Asplund (22 September 1885 – 20 October 1940) was a Swedish architect, mostly known as a key representative of Nordic Classicism of the 1920s, and during the last decade of his life as a major proponent of the modernist style which made its breakthrough in Sweden at the Stockholm International Exhibition (1930).
Among Asplund's most important works is the Stockholm Public Library, constructed between 1924 and 1928, which stands as the prototypical example of the Nordic Classicism and so-called Swedish Grace movement. It was particularly influential on the proposal submitted for the competition for the design of the Viipuri Library in 1927 by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, who regarded Asplund as his mentor.
Another important work is the extension of the Gothenburg Courthouse Extension building which Asplund started on 1913 and finished 1937 - it shows his transformation from neo-classical to functionalist architect, a transformation in parallel with other European modernists like Erich Mendelsohn.

Gunnar Asplund GA6 Table Lamp, Designed in 1930's
By Erik Gunnar Asplund
Located in Värnamo, SE
GA6 is the luminaire that has a very noble expression, where the combination of brass, mahogany and the structure of the textile hints at Gunnar Asplunds’ famous eye for details.
The hardwood together with the polished brass creates a lasting expression, while the structure of the variable textile keeps challenging and draw the gaze to itself.
The luminaire was originally created around the lightbulb and will continue to be manufactured around omnidirectional light sources.
Mahogany in FSC certified material.

"GA9" Wall Lights by Erik Gunnar Asplund for ASEA, Sweden 1940s
By ASEA, Erik Gunnar Asplund
Located in Utrecht, NL
“GA9” appears to be inspired by a droplet, floating upward the wall. The mouth blown glass with bubbles creates an intricate play between light and shadow, giving the appearance of light travelling through water.
Swedish architect and designer, Erik Gunnar Asplund, is celebrated as the godfather of functionalist design in Sweden. Like his celebrated Stockholm City Library, these lamps emphasize geometric simplicity and clarity of form. The construction of this model is ingenious, with a bent arm holding the glass in place, with yet another arm holding the light source in the centre of the luminaire. The black lacquered metal bends organically into sinuous forms, while the backplates have a polygon shape. Pairing the geometric elements with the more organic one shows Asplund’s great eye for design that was ahead of his time. The large, mushroom-like mouth blown glass shades have distinctive “drops” on their surface, creating a beautiful effect that becomes even more apparent when the light is on. The atmospheric light it creates is not measurable, nor is it functional in the traditional sense. It is easily forgotten, but nevertheless important when creating a space of wellbeing. It is the most basic and fundamental of all lighting principles, one that has been with us since the dawn of time. Asplund’s life and work served as inspiration to a number of Scandinavian design luminaries, such as lifelong friend and mentee Alvar Aalto, as well as Erik Bryggman and Arne Jacobsen.
An acronym for Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (“General Swedish Electrical Limited Company”), ASEA was a Swedish manufacturer of electrical products and industrial infrastructure. The company endures in the hearts of design lovers for their mid-century interior lighting collections produced in collaboration with venerated designers like Gunnar Asplund.
