Gianni Piacentino Prints and Multiples
Gianni Piacentino is an Italian artist, known for his sculpture and painting inspired by motorcycles, automobiles and planes. Indeed, he began constructing angular metallic sculptures in the 1960s. Although his works bear a visual affinity to Minimalist Art, his sculptures are inspired by the artist’s interest in speed and industrial design. Piacentino originally belonged to the Italian movement of Arte Povera, but in 1967 he turned towards “The Aesthetics of Technology”, as he said. His metal sculptures resemble prototypes or designs of cars, bikes and flying devices. The sculptural forms are vehicles for matte and metallic colors and they are evocative of 1960s automobile design, which used color and line to convey speed and motion.
