Harold Dearden Figurative Drawings and Watercolors
British, 1888-1962
Harold Dearden was an oil and watercolor painter and a draughtsman in ink. From 1905, he studied under H. Barrett Carpenter at Rochdale School of Art, followed by a period of five years during which he studied under Gerald Moira at the Royal College of Art. In 1920, Dearden became the head of Swindon Art College, a position he held for 30 years. For a time he also held the presidency of Swindon Artists' Society. His work has been exhibited in London and other provincial galleries. It was also held at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, where he lived. He passed away in 1962.

Biography:
Drake studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, with Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and Henri Lucien Doucet.
Back from Europe, he studied at the Cincinnati School of Design, and would often go to the zoo, where he could draw the animals. He was then employed by the Museum of Natural History. He continued to study at the Art Students League of New York. In 1878 he worked as a freelance pen-and-ink artist for such periodicals as Century or Harper’s with animal studies...
