Jean Robert Ipousteguy Prints and Multiples
French, 1920-2006
Born Jean Robert in Dun-sur-Meuse, France, Ipoustéguy moved to Paris in 1938, studying under Robert Lesbounit. Initially a painter, he transitioned to sculpture in 1949, establishing a studio in Choisy-le-Roi. Known for his bold and expressive figures, his work often explored themes of sexuality, birth, decay, and resurrection, blending human forms with abstract elements.
Internationally acclaimed, he won the Bright Prize at the 1964 Venice Biennale and the Grand National Prize for Art in 1977. He was knighted in the Légion d'Honneur in 1984. His works are housed in major collections worldwide. Ipoustéguy passed away in 2006 in his hometown.to
