Justin Peyser Sculptures
Justin Peyser was born in Boston in 1964 and grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. He graduated from Harvard's Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at a time when it was under the cultural influence of the Bauhaus. His teachers included Greek-American Sculptor Dimitri Hadzi. Peyser's main medium is steel. His sculptures spring from his interest in the relationship between space and architecture as well as the issue of neglected urban areas and the reasons they were abandoned. Concepts of territory, inclusion and exclusion pervade through the work. His artwork assembles surfaces that have been battered, cut, reassembled in a continuum of space and time.
