Manfred Schwartz Landscape Prints
American, 1909-1970
Manfred Schwartz was a Polish-born American artist whose contributions to 20th-century art solidified his place in modernism. His extensive training at institutions such as the Sorbonne, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, the Art Students League of New York, and the National Academy of Design, along with studies under figures like Charles Hawthorne, John Sloan, and George Bridgman, shaped his artistic journey. Schwartz exhibited alongside artists like Maurice Vlaminck, Bernard Buffet, Edward Hopper, and Andrew Wyeth. A "Francophile," his frequent trips to France, especially to Étretat on the Normandy Coast at the suggestion of Henri Matisse, deeply influenced his work. There, he refined his pointillist style, capturing the interplay of light and color. Schwartz was a member of the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors and American Abstract Artists, and his work is housed in prestigious collections, including MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum, and The Art Institute of Chicago.to
