Marc Balakjian Prints and Multiples

Armenian, 1938-2017

Marc Balakjian was enigmatic in his subject matter creating images that are disturbing in their ambiguity. Armenian by descent, Balakjian was raised in Lebanon. Balakjian spent his early years in the small town of Rayak, before moving to Beirut at the age of 10. Balakjian came to England in 1966, initially to study architecture with a firm in Oxford. Balakjian then decided to study art at Hammersmith College of Art and took up a Postgraduate degree in printmaking at the Slade School of Art in 1971. After graduating, Balakjian began working at Studio Prints in 1973, just as it was establishing itself in Queen’s Crescent. By 1976, Balakjian had become a full-time partner, collaborating with other artists as well as continuing his work, much of which is inspired by his Armenian and Lebanese culture and heritage. By the 1980s work was falling off, so Balakjian and Studio Prints introduced in-house plate-making to serve painters and sculptors who had little experience with printmaking. Artists such as Leon Kossoff, Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud and Ken Kiff – all demanding characters – appreciated Balakjian's attention to detail and his ability to anticipate their thoughts and intentions. Balakjian printed the most technically difficult plates to produce excellent results.

Marc Balakjian was enigmatic in his subject matter creating images that are disturbing in their ambiguity. Is this image just striped fabric tied with ropes on a platform or is this is a flag-draped coffin symbolizing those who passed "in memory of an historic phrase"? Politicians may turn the phrase but a price must be paid. This small edition mezzotint was created in 1975 in an edition of only 5. Armenian by descent, Marc Balakjian was raised in Lebanon. Abstract Flowers - Esacolor by Martine Goeyens - 2000s
By Martine Goeyens
Located in Roma, IT
Abstract Flowers is an original colored esacolor print realized by Martine Goeyens in the 2000s. The artwork is hand-signed in pen by the artist on the lower right. Hand-retouched by the artist on the lower left margin. Embossed stamp of the "Fondazione Di Paolo" on the lower right margin. Very good conditions. Esacolor is a graphic technique applied on canvas and hand-retouched by the artist. The artwork represents an explosion of colors in an abstract composition, recalling flowers, hand-retouched by the artist with fluid colorful brushstrokes! Martine Goeyens (1953) is a Belgian artist who began her artistic training as a student of Master Lafaille, the greatest Belgian painter of the time. In this period, she learnt the technique "en plein air"; her talent and her spontaneous creativity would do the rest. In Martine Goeyens' painting, there is no human presence; nature predominates undisputed, sometimes enclosed in a vase of flowers, sometimes in a village scattered around houses. Her art is both archaic and modern. The colorful atmospheres transmit emotions. Today, her unique style is so appreciated internationally that she was awarded numerous prestigious prizes: Best Painter "en plein air" in Sainte Maxime...
