Maria Callas Photography
Maria Callas, the American soprano of Greek origin, naturalized Italian and later Greek, was equipped with a particular voice, with a unique tone of considerable volume, great extension and agility. Callas contributed to the rediscovery of the Italian repertoire of the first half of the nineteenth century, called Belcanto Renaissance, or Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti, of which she was able to give a personal reading in a dramatic key (her interpretations of Norma and Lucia were fundamental in this regard of Lammermoor). Her artistic success joined with her frequent media presence, two elements that helped to build a real myth around her, creating The Divine.
