Exceptional Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Young mother in elaborate Rococo house dress: Ruched wide long skirt, bodice, fitted frilled coat with hood, the upswept hair covered by a high voluminous bonnet with ruched hem and bows, sitting on a splendid Louis XVI style bench and placing her right foot on a stool, beside her the happy spouse in frock coat, waistcoat over frilled shirt and knee breeches with white stockings, both embracing each other at the back and looking down at the baby wrapped in cloth and lying half naked on a cushion on both their laps, the father guiding his right hand to the mother's chin in an affectionate gesture. Behind them a little boy in a playsuit and hat, holding a bowl and blowing soap bubbles with a tube. The group is based on an oval natural base with sculpted flowers and foliage and gold heightened lateral frieze decoration. Particularly elaborate, detailed design and staffage. Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kändler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. Excellent Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Depiction of the goddess Kybele, the great Phrygian mother of the gods 'Magna Mater', seated with a mural crown on a reclining lion, holding a cornucopia on her lap, symbol of wealth and abundance, behind her standing on a rock a female cupid presenting a key, surrounded by further three cupids with flowers, crops and rake, symbolising agriculture and the cultivation of the earth. The group is based on an irregular earth and rock base with a gold rim. Kybele usually wears a crown in the shape of a city wall on her head as an attribute and is depicted in castles, monasteries and baroque gardens, especially in the 18th century. In cycles showing the four elements, she embodies the earth. That is why she is often presented with the sun and moon to her right and left. In the other hand she may carry a staff of office, a sceptre, as a symbol of rulership complementing the mural crown. In the other hand she carries a small kettledrum, which may symbolise the noise of her madness or the festivities held in her honour. Often Kybele rides on a lion or a pair of lions, or she rides on a chariot drawn by two lions. Spikes of corn, poppies, flowers or fruit in bowls may also be shown. wikipwdia. Excellent Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Depiction of the merely cloth-covered, bearded and crowned god Hephaestus (Roman: Vulcanus) seated centrally on a rock, holding a long-handled hammer beside him and looking off to the side, surrounded by winged putti representing activities from his trade: Patronizing the entire artistic spectrum of metalworking, including the production of jewelry, weapons, sacred-ritual and profane utilitarian objects, the one helping putto to his right is busy firing a cannon made of metal, to his left another putto is forging on an anvil with the help of a hammer and tongs, in front of him, at his feet are presented ornately crafted war ornaments such as a helmet and shield, at the back a putto holds small torches in both hands. Excellent Rococo love group in splendid clothes in front of ornate column monument: the gallant sitting on the pedestal of the pedestal at the feet of his beloved, on his lap a basket full of flowers and a flower garland, a sign of his exuberant love, handing the beloved a bouquet of flowers, the latter plucking off the petals of a flower one after the other to find out whether he really loves her or not - a time-honored game of lovers. The group is characterized by particularly elaborate, detailed and loving design and staffage and is based on oval meadow base with gold heightened lateral frieze decoration and gold borders. A successful representation of one of the bourgeois themes that had become popular in the course of the 18th century, for example, through the paintings of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805).
