Architectural Modern Dining Table by Morris of California, Mid-Century Modern
By Morris of California
Located in Topeka, KS
Wonderful Mid-Century Modern dining table by Morris of California for their Architectural Modern collection. This table is in exceptional original vintage condition circa 1940s-1950s and has three semi-aproned leaves to expand it dramatically.
If you are looking for a special dining room table, this is it. Deemed midcentury but with an Art Deco flair the table is comprised of a beautiful top with a patterned veneer and stepped-out tiered apron. This gorgeous top is held up by a double set of curved and spindled legs. Graceful and dramatic. There are three leaves which expand the table to full 85 inches. Each leaf is supplied with the top tier of the main table’s apron which gives a beautiful stepped up effect to the sides. The walnut used for this piece is extraordinary and has many different grain patterns including some gorgeous birds-eye. Please see photos. Each detail combines to render this table exceptional! And it is in exceptional vintage condition. The Architectural Modern Collection was produced by Morris of California roughly from 1948 to 1955. Through online research I’ve gleaned that Morris of California was incorporated by Edward Morris...

This design spread to the U.S., where it was seen by Gustav Stickley. Drawing inspiration from it, Stickley produced the Stickley chair in 1904. Like the Morris chair, the piece has a reclining back but a simpler slatted frame that aligns with the American Arts and Crafts design style. Due to its origins, some people call the Stickley chair the Stickley Morris chair or the Mission Morris chair. Explore a collection of Stickley chairs and Morris chairs on 1stDibs.
