Nicolas Party Figurative Prints
Swiss, b. 1980
Nicolas Party (born July 1, 1980, in Lausanne, Switzerland) is a Swiss visual artist. He lives and works in New York City and Brussels. He is known for his multi-media interdisciplinary immersive exhibitions.
He received his BFA degree from the Lausanne School of Art in 2004 and his MFA from the Glasgow School of Art, in Glasgow, Scotland in 2009.
Party's work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, the Magritte Museum in Brussels, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum. For his second exhibition at the Hirshorn Museum which ran from September 18, 2021 until the spring of 2022 he created his largest work to date Draw the Curtain, it "wraps 360 degrees around the temporary scaffolding that encases the Museum building and spans a circumference of 829 feet". It is an "original pastel painting digitally collaged and printed onto scrim". Party’s exhibition "When Tomorrow Comes" at the Museum Frieder Burda is the Swiss artist’s first museum presentation in Germany. Party' primary medium of choice is pastel.
Party is represented by Hauser & Wirth, The Modern Institute, Kaufmann Repetto, Gregor Staiger, Karma and Xavier Hufkens. In February 2020 he had his first solo exhibition, "Scottsboro" with Hauser & Wirth at their Los Angeles, California venue.
Among the artists Party cites as having influenced his painting are Rosalba Carriera, Félix Vallotton, Milton Avery, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio Morandi.
Party's landscapes often draw from or even directly cite styles and motifs from a diverse set of contemporary painters and painters of previous generations, including Salvo, a similarity picked up at a number of exhibitions.to

Sultan’s work incorporates basic geometric and organic forms with a formal purity that is both subtle and monumental. His images are weighty, with equal emphasis on both negative and positive areas. His powerfully sensual, fleshy object representations are rendered through a labor-intensive and unique method.
"The image in the front is very fragile, but it conveys the loaded meaning of everything that is contained in the painting." — Donald Sultan
This print of flowing yellow mimosa blossoms, which shows all the textural qualities that the artist excels at in his printmaking projects, is made with several layers of color silkscreen, some matte finish inks, and some glossy. Mimosas depicts the flowering plant Mimosa, which is also called the sensitive plant or sleepy plant. Sultan seems to have taken inspiration from the name with the dark black, chalky stems flowing down and covering most of the page and the clusters of white spots symbolizing the blossoms.
DONALD SULTAN
Donald Sultan (born 1951, Asheville, US) is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and printmaker, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the “New Image” movement. He is best known for the use of abstracted, geometric black forms against organic areas of bright color.
Donald Sultan (USA, born 1951) is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and printmaker, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the New Yorker “New Image” movement. He has a unique artistic method and innovative approach to traditional subject matter. Known as Abstract Representation, Donald Sultan´s art is characterized by the use of geometric black forms set against organic areas of bright color, thus bringing an abstract sensibility to his iconographic images of still life. Ed Paschke Biography:
Ed Paschke was born in Chicago where he spent most of his life as an important painter. He was initially associated in the late 1960s with the second generation of Chicago Imagists who called themselves The Hairy Who. He received his B.F.A. from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 and his M.F.A. in 1970. Between degrees he lived for a time in New York where he easily came under the influence of Pop art, in part, because of his interests as a child in animation and cartoons. His fascination with the print media of popular culture led to a portrait-based art of cultural icons. Paschke used the celebrity figure, real or imagined, as a vehicle for explorations of personal and public identity with social and political implications.
Although his style is representational, with a loose affiliation to Photorealism, Paschke’s art plays...
