Adam Stegner Plywood Midcentury Stackable Chairs for Pagholz Flottöto, 1971
By Pagholz Flötotto, Adam Stegner
Located in Vicenza, IT
Set of Six Stackable Chairs Designed by Adam Stegner for Pagholz Flötotto, 1971
This set of six stackable chairs features:
- Solid Pagwood molded seats (high-density laminated compressed wood)
- Orthopedic pelvic and back support for ergonomic comfort
- Sturdy solid iron legs
- Stackable design for space efficiency
Excellent vintage condition
About the Design:
Designed in 1971 by Adam Stegner for Pagholz Flötotto, these chairs showcase German engineering in both form and function. The innovative Pagwood material—a high-density, laminated compressed wood—was developed to provide durability while maintaining a sleek, organic aesthetic. The contoured seat design offers built-in orthopedic support, ensuring comfort without the need for mechanical adjustments. Set on solid iron legs, the structure is both lightweight and highly resistant, making the chairs ideal for high-use environments.
About the Manufacturer:
Pagholz Flötotto is known for pioneering molded wood technology, combining natural aesthetics with industrial strength. The company played a key role in the development of ergonomic seating solutions, particularly for educational and professional spaces.
Historical Context:
The 1970s saw a shift towards innovative material applications in furniture design. Pagwood, with its balance of strength and flexibility, represented a breakthrough in molded wood technology. Stegner’s design prioritized both function and minimalism, aligning with the modernist movement of the era.

1 of 5 Original Mid Century Modern Flötotto Scandinavian Chairs in Pagwood
By Pagholz Flötotto, Adam Stegner
Located in Zagreb, HR
Original chair classics from the 70s made by the traditional German company Flötotto.
This model was developed and produced by the family in the post-war period. It revolutionized furnishing furniture in schools and universities. The chair was light, state-of-the-art manufacturing processes were implemented. The backrest and seat are made of moulded laminated plywood (pagwood). Due to the low material thickness, the weight is reduced, the glued wood layers make the material extremely stable and yet flexible.
Overall in good vintage condition, with expected signs of age such as surface scratches and smaller scuffs.
No missing parts and in completely original condition. No cracks in the wood and structurally good.
