Presented in a contemporary giltwood frame. Image size: 9"H x 12"W. Framed size: 10.60"H x 14"W x 1"D Westchiloff is an American-Russian artist. He was born in Russia in 1877, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg; as an artist he traveled extensively in Europe and in the USA. He finally settled in New England, where he died in 1945. He is probably best-known for seascapes (particularly of the New England coastline), but was also well regarded for his landscapes, portraits and figures, and genre subjects. His work, especially after his travels in Europe and then in America, is closest to Impressionist in style. His favored medium was oil, which was well suited to his confident and strong technique. This in turn imbued his paintings of the rugged landscapes and seascapes of New England...

Gorgeous late 19th Century landscape of cows near watering hole with birch trees and puffy clouds in background by Wesley John Straight (American, 1855 - 1922). Signed lower left corner and on verso. Title "Autumn in New England" on verso lower stretcher bar. Condition: Good; professionally cleaned and restored; minor abrasions repaired and in-painted (see images). Unframed. Image size: 40"H x 32"W. Born in Wisconsin on May 20, 1855. Straight appears to have migrated to northern California in the late 1870s. While a resident of San Jose and Grass Valley, he painted scenes of the northern coast and other scenic spots. After moving to southern California in 1912, he lived at the Southern Hotel in San Bernardino until his demise on April 5, 1922. Cherry Blossom Dream by Sophia Chalklen is an original painting. One day I was sat looking up at a cherry blossom tree and thought how beautiful it looked from that angle. I took a photo and had to paint it. The beautiful light breaking through made it even more beautiful. I have used various metallic pink leaf as well as 24ct gold leaf on the trunk to create that extra sparkle and magic as the light hits the painting. Due to the nature of the metallic leaf it looks different in different light. Contemporary artist Sophia Chalklen sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Sophia has always had a strong passion for Art ever since she was a child. Sophia studied at Winchester school of Art where she completed a BA specialising in Textile design. After achieving her BA she went on to become a Freelance Printed Textile designer for a small company in London. Shortly after that she managed to get a job as a Fine Jewellery Designer for the Crown Jewellers, Asprey and Garrard Bond St. Sophia became a specialist in designing high end Jewellery, accessories, and ornaments for English and Middle Eastern Royalty and the Elite. She also designed a great variety of items including rings, Jewellery Suites, watches, cufflinks, Jewel incrusted clocks, tiaras and precious ornaments. When quite young Langley was abandoned by his parents in Australia. Making his way to Canada, he traveled alone by canoe down to the Gulf of Mexico. In Chicago he worked with Wm Selig in developing the motion picture camera and became a U.S. citizen in 1904. Before that he had played trumpet in the Illinois State Guard for many years. Sometime before 1917 he came to Hollywood, CA with Selig where they produced the pioneer epic, 'The Spoilers."
