5 Rye Pottery England Porcelain Figurines Lovers Pastry Nativity Shepard Sailor
By Rye Pottery
Located in Dayton, OH
"5 Rye Pottery figurines. Made of porcelain, circa 2000, 2001 & 2002. Marked on base, features: Lovers, Pastry, Nativity, Shepard, and Sailor.
The Lovers, True Love The name of this figure says it all really, true love. The tenderness invoked by this piece.
The Rye Pastry Cook, aka Mrs. Beeton The folds in the strong sculptural shape of her dress and cooking apron are beautifully emphasized by the hand painted soft Delphinium Blue which is over-layed with a technically challenging cobalt stripe. This is a clean crisp piece showing off enticing goodies in her mixing bowl and the worktop behind her, combining to provide just the right splash of additional color. Like all the best food, the Rye Pastry Cook is enticing yet comforting at the same time.
The naive nativity
Full of charm and packed with detail, this figure depicts a serene Mary & Child. While the sheep and cattle look on, the Angels herald the child’s arrival.
And don’t forget to check the back, where you’ll find two Shepherds celebrating the birth too with the Angel’s perching up above.
Shepherd Neame & His Wife of Sussex
We’re not sure about the origins of the name for this piece, but it’s without doubt a simple, country figure depicting a humble Shepherd and his wife.
With their charming two sheep at their side, these are hard-working country folk who spend their days tending their animals and tilling the land. Farming is one of those Classic professions that seems too simple to those on the outside, but its tough work as every shepherd and farmer knows. There’s no breaks at Christmas or on your birthday, the animals still need to be looked after and fed, though the addition of quad bikes these days does at least make getting around the fields a tad quicker. Though you still have to open the gates!
