Sheila Daube Art

American
Sheila Daube is an abstract artist from Southern California. Influenced by the mid-century American School she also credits her years as a preschool teacher as fundamental to her art. “I’ve been trying to paint like a five-year-old for years, trying to return to my original reaction to color and line.” Daube is inspired by timeless themes from mythology while exploring unique mediums using foil and powdered pigments. Daube teaches classes in abstract art at Art on 30th in San Diego. Her work is found in private collections, has been featured in national shows, and is represented by Sylvia White Gallery in Agoura Hills.

Taghkanic Creek, May 14 (Modern Abstract Painting on Canvas in Green & Teal)
By Vincent Pomilio
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern, abstract mixed media painting on canvas in shades of bright teal, turquoise, yellow, and green 40 x 30 inches acrylic, pigmented plaster, wax on canvas Ready to hang as is. Vincent Pomilio is master when it comes to color composition. His abstractions on canvas and wood panel come to life with the most brilliant, yet unexpected color combinations. This mid century modern style abstract painting exemplifies Pomilio celebrated technique of combing vibrant shades of acrylic paint, pigmented plaster, and encaustic. The painting's complexity is made possible through the use of multiple layers of acrylic and plaster. Here the artist begins with an under-layer of teal acrylic paint and then sections off each cross hatching pattern in varying shades of pale yellow, purple, teal, green, and turquoise. Details of gestural splatters of green paint compliments the surface while a final coat of encaustic medium creates an elegant, matte finish. The sides of the abstract geometric painting are painted a dark royal blue, so no framing is necessary. The work is equipped with sturdy wire and is ready to hang. About the artist: Vincent Pomilio specializes in all painting media, canvas, paper and wooden panel. A visit to his studio in the bustling neighborhood of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village offers a unique insight into the artist’s process of his own art making. The right brain dominates here; skillful use of color, shape, line and scale are discovered via intuition, experimentation and quarter turns of the canvas. Pomilio has occupied this bohemian artist’s pad since his school days ended at New York University in 1978 and it is here that he continues to paint to this day. Abstractions of color explosions are harmoniously composed using a combination of acrylic, wax, pigmented plaster and marble dust to build up surfaces and introduce texture. “In the end, the challenge is to know when to stop,” says Pomilio. The result is a stunningly complex and layered composition of color that one could interpret as an aerial landscape view or motifs that resemble woven baskets. When it comes to abstractions, the artist rationalizes, “If you see it, it is there.” At one point in his career, Pomilio felt he was struggling to successfully produce small paintings using the scaled patterns that was common in his work. This prompted a new series - the Big-Little series – which encompasses a study of big images on a small scale. By introducing a degree of ‘minimalism’ he could explore color relationships while magnifying techniques used on larger canvases. The effect this project had on his work flow was one of renewed energy and confidence. He could complete a painting much quicker than with the larger canvases, allowing him to try various solutions and expel creative energy in a focused way. Earlier this year, he completed the 100th 12 x 12 inch painting in the series. This exhibit will feature #100 (as well as #99 and #98), highlighting other selections from this series in addition to select medium and larger paintings on canvas. Vincent Pomilio is represented by the seller based in Hudson, NY. White Color Rings
By Petra Rös-Nickel
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Petra Rös-Nickel’s original paintings merge playful forms, bright colors and architectural compositions in oil and mixed media on canvas. Her contemporary artworks contain rich textures and patterns, referencing popular European textile design of the fifties and sixties. Rös-Nickel’s work translates the geometric and organic elements of an era which hoisted the flags of modernism and which, due to a trend to return to a rather retro style, has become topical once more. This 36 inch square contemporary oil painting can be installed horizontally or vertically. The sides of this artwork are painted and it does not require framing. This one-of-a-kind painting is signed by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Petra was born 1963 in Wathlingen near Celle, Germany, and breaks completely new ground with her abstract forms of painting and expression. After studying fashion design at the professional school for clothing in Bremen, 1980, Petra Rös-Nickel changed her field of study to architecture in Eckernförde, 1982. She now lives in Hamburg, Germany. Preferring the creative aspects of the studies to the technical ones, the artist developed the basics of her painting, never denying the roots of applied design and soon ending in a refreshing, distinctive style. Petra Rös-Nickel experiments with form, along with the use of a technique that draws attention to the processes used in creating a painting. Essential is the color space presented in multiple layers that offers the beholder access to more profound color planes. These details, scratchings, and rubbings lead to various elements of tension, such as “patchwork” or harmonious-contemplative forms (“windows”) and “oscillating lines”. Rös-Nickel's modernist paintings develop an energetic impact on the space they‘re displayed in, conveying her joy of life and self-confidence. Her abstract geometric textured artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including Germany, Belgium, USA, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong. Notable collectors include Chris Rock...

Threads No. 2 - Modern Mixed Media Artwork
By Susan Washington
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Susan Washington seamlessly blends modern textiles, delicate threads, and captivating vintage pattern paper to create her mesmerizing mixed-media, abstract collage works. Through her masterful technique, she produces surfaces that are richly layered with textures and adorned with expressive line work, resulting in artworks that are both visually stimulating and aesthetically satisfying. Drawing inspiration from the early Synthetic Cubists, Abstract Expressionists, and the esteemed St. Ives School of Painters, she pushes the boundaries of her craft, forging a distinct artistic path that is both innovative and thought-provoking. This one-of-a-kind 36-inch tall by 48-inch wide mixed media artwork on canvas is wired and ready to hang. It bears the artist's signature on the back and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the art gallery. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is available for US and international art collectors. Hailing from the vibrant artistic hub of Brooklyn, Susan Washington was raised in a creative family that fostered her innate talent from a young age. At the tender age of seven, her Japanese godmother imparted to her the ancient art of sumi ink painting, igniting a lifelong passion for art and fashion. With a solid foundation rooted in both disciplines, Washington honed her skills within the bustling fashion industry of New York City for over 15 years before finding her home in the serene Pocono Mountains. “My recent work continues the exploration of shapes that originate in tailoring pattern pieces,” says Washington. “My works over time have become more structural in their compositions. I utilize textile cutouts that have been previously sewn and/or painted. I allow threads and frayed edges to act as ‘painterly’ gestures within a loose grid of contrasting shapes that jostle for position across the canvas. I enjoy the tensions where shapes meet and create negative space or where color overlaps and interacts.” Washington's modernist approach to Cubist-inspired artworks has gained international recognition for asymmetrical geometric elements that combine to form a complex, layered composition. Her artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai. EXHIBITIONS 2017-23 Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA 2021 Boom!
