Thia Nevius Mixed Media

American, b. 1945

Thia Nevius is a versatile and accomplished artist whose work spans a wide range of mediums and styles. Known for her mastery in oil, watercolor, acrylic, and monotype, she skillfully captures the beauty and complexity of landscapes, figures, still life, abstract, and representational art. Her monotypes—unique, hand-pulled prints created from etched plates—are a testament to her technical prowess and creativity. Ms. Nevius' ability to render light and infuse her art with an almost mythological presence has earned her critical acclaim. A critic once compared her prints to the work of renowned artists like Andy Warhol and Lowell Nesbitt, praising their subtlety and emotional depth. Ms. Nevius has a deep passion for figure drawing, which has remained a cornerstone of her artistic journey. Whether rendered surrealistically in oils, abstractly in monotypes, or fluidly in watercolor, her figures possess a timeless grace and sensitivity. Her abstract paintings, with their translucent layers and glowing quality, reflect her unique ability to control color and material, captivating audiences with their depth and beauty. Her work has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and corporate collections across the globe, including locations in Japan, Los Angeles, Chicago, and private collections in France, Italy, Germany, and the U.S. Ms. Nevius’ career is marked by numerous juried exhibitions and significant accolades, such as the Award of Excellence from the Annual Juried Artists Association Show in Durango, Colorado, and the Best of Show Award from the 18th Annual Exhibition in Ouray, Colorado. She earned her Masters of Fine Arts in 1983 and continues to create art that resonates with emotion and technical mastery. Through her dynamic range of subjects and mediums, Thia Nevius has established herself as an artist whose work shines with light, grace, and beauty, leaving a lasting impact on all who experience it.

Skilled as a lecturer, Catt rose rapidly to national leadership, succeeding Susan B. Anthony as president of the National/American Women’s Suffrage Association in 1900. Catt’s pressure on President Woodrow Wilson and her tireless work to secure state ratification, culminated in the Nineteenth Amendment’s adoption in 1920. Following suffrage work, Catt devoted herself to peace and disarmament issues, serving as chair of the Committee on the Cause and Cure of War. The Women’s Rights Historical Park exhibited the growing series in 1995 during the 75th anniversary of women’s suffrage. The Oberlin College...
