Yanieb Fabre Abstract Drawings and Watercolors

Mexican, b. 1983
Born with a name invented by her father for a novel in which she is the heroine, Yanieb’s childhood differed from other children. She grew up following her parents, who worked as actors, to theatrical performances and rehearsals. Her education was based on observing nature, and she enjoyed total freedom in an artistic and cultural environment that disconnected her from traditional social norms. Yanieb was extremely sensitive and felt the outside world intensely, often without fully understanding it. From a young age, she expressed herself through drawing, which became her best friend and her way of making sense of the world around her. At 18, she went through a challenging period, feeling alienated and overwhelmed by her emotions. However, she instinctively understands that these sensitivity, differences, and emotions make her what she is and wants to be. She dedicated herself to artistic activities to express and share her world and feelings. She also received a scholarship to study at SOMA, one of the best art schools in Mexico. Her work has been exhibited in numerous museums in Mexico, France, and Europe. Yanieb has been based in France since 2013 and combines video, dance, and drawing to approach the visual arts as an intuitive mechanism to com- municate impulses and express her moods and passions. Her artworks are inspired by nature, desire, and her fascination with the animal origins of humanity. Drawing inspiration from ancient myths, she explores and gives free rein to her imagination in a poetic and dreamlike delirium, conveying her vision of the spiritual manifestation of nature.
