It is full size, measuring 35.3mm in diameter. Powered by one of the most highly-regarded manually wound movements ever made, talked about in the same sentence as Pateks, the watch is rich in technical details. For those unfamiliar, the caliber 89 movement was designed by IWC's renowned technical director Albert Pellaton. All its parts are original. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition. Watches in the Tudor line, apart from the fact that they utilize ebauche movements, are similar to those of Rolex in design and construction. When Rolex launched the Tudor brand in 1945, they strongly intended that the public perception of its quality had to equal that of Rolex. To achieve this lofty aim, until the mid-1990's, Tudor watches featured Rolex cases and crowns, and, until 1971, Rolex bracelets. An advertisement in Britain's Horological Journal in vintage times stated that Tudor's were, "Manufactured under strict Rolex supervision and bear the Rolex label of guarantee." Today's offering showcases this Certified Pre-Owned Tudor Oyster Prince automatic mens watch in gorgeous original condition. We really like its cool mixed Roman and baton dial. Patterned after the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, one of the company's staple and respected models, it possessed the same features and conception - it was thinner and a bit more affordable than its Rolex sibling. Our Oyster Prince has all of its original parts. Its original Rolex Oyster case presents in mint condition with only slight signs of previous polishing. Produced in very limited numbers, these "rigid hooded" watches are one of the most desirable Bubbleback models and contrast the plainer Oyster watches. Housed in one of Rolex's first water-tight Oyster cases, this wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water and dust. Inside the ruggedly elegant case Rolex place an early self-winding Perpetual movement, keeping the watch powered by movements of the wrist. Equipped with nineteen jewels, a self-compensating Breguet mainspring, and the company's patented Super-Balance system for greater accuracy, this fine watch the timekeeping standards of discriminating owners. Besides being the much rarer hooded version of a Bubbleback, what further separates this watch from other Bubblebacks its it beautiful all-original condition. It has all of its original parts down to all hands and its Rolex + Oyster winding crown. Its gold and steel case shows only light signs of previous polishing. All of the back and underside of the watch still retain their original factory applied finish - satin for the back and a blasted finish between the lugs. It gained notoriety due to its use by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbird Flight Aerobatic Flight Team. It features a bi-directional bezel to measure elapsed time, making it the most functional and expensive watch in the Datejust line. In fact, prior to the introduction of the Day-Date President, the solid gold Turn-O-Graph was the most expensive Rolex cataloged. The watch did not originally enjoy terribly strong sales success and thus not a tremendous number were made, making vintage examples sought after by collectors.
