Joseph Piccillo’s meticulous charcoal and graphite drawings and paintings reveal an exquisite draftsmanship tempered by emotional sensitivity. Piccillo presents an action-based assemblage of images and symbols by combining dancers, horses, divers, and sometimes mysterious and arbitrarily placed figures producing a surreal effect. His compositional logic, for example, contrasts the gracefully elongated ballerinas to the compressed and invigorated musculature of horses and divers. Piccillo’s horse series details anatomical studies from varying angles of the horse as “supreme beast” while also reflecting a classic homage to their heroism. Bonnie Seeman grew up in Miami, Florida with a propensity towards anatomy illustration and the dazzling colors and rich foliage of the Miami landscape. Developing her technique with porcelain and glass, Seeman channeled her inspirations; resulting in vessels that are both beautiful and macabre. Combinations of muscular and skeletal anatomy and plant forms are the makeup of these sculptural utilitarian vessels. Instead of dwelling on dying, Seeman’s palpable forms culminate in an acute awareness and awe toward life, renewal, nature, and vitality. Shortly after completing her master’s degree in Fine Arts, Seeman was recognized by Galeria OMR in Mexico City, a gallery known for its cutting-edge artists. In effect, Seeman’s porcelain was taken out of the craft context and placed in exhibitions such as ARCO in Madrid, FIAC in Paris, and Art Basel. She shows extensively throughout the United States and was recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation 2005 Biennial Competition Award. Aaron Karp is a practicing artist of more than 40 years. Originally from New York he has lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1979 where he worked as an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of New Mexico until 1984. Since leaving the University he has painted full time, has exhibited his work extensively and has received recognition through a number of awards, grants and artist in residencies. Aaron Karp has developed a style of painting utilizing various systems of taping to develop fractured fields of color and space. In 2001 Karp was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and in 2002 a Kittredge Foundation Grant. Also in 2002 he was awarded an artist-in-residency in Costa Rica at the Julia and David White Artists’ Colony. In 2004 Karp was awarded a residency and a monetary grant through the Robert M. MacNamara Foundation located on Westport Island...

Small’s work includes porcelain figurines and lace-like steel chandeliers inspired by branches and twigs he has documented during his travels. While in China, Small’s porcelain forms developed as visual communicators, in a culture where he didn’t speak the language. Like tattoos, Small’s glaze imagery of colorful Chinese trucks, buses, traditional motifs, nature and ornament float on the skin of his two primary porcelain forms, Talk Bubbles and Ghosts. Small’s steel chandeliers contain echoes of the opulent past of the 17th & 18th century, but have been set free of function and the restraint of tradition. Constructed of filigreed steel cut by computer controlled machines, the chandeliers are composed of “fins” of metal lace, hinged around a central axis. Small’s chandeliers are suspended sculptures that question the origins of ornamental habits. Major stylistic revolutions such as Bauhaus or Pop demolish definitions and use of ornament, but many old habits slip through the cracks.
