Born in Osaka, Takeshi Nakayoshi first studied at the University of Oregon before attending the San Francisco Art Institute where he received his BFA (1977) and MFA (1982). Influenced by the work of Matisse and Diebenkorn, Nakayoshi combines this background with his interest in abstract expressionism and his ongoing exploration of the connections between art and music.

Born in Detroit, Alexander Minewski left home at the age of 14 to work in the circus. He subsequently worked as a sign painter and a logger. Minewski first studied at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit (1936-1939) and received scholarships that allowed him to attend the Art Students League in New York City (1939-1942). There, he studied under artists including Jean Charlot, Ernest Fiene, George Grosz and Vaclav Vytlacil.
During World War II, Minewski joined the army and fought as a combat engineer. Wounded in Burma while fighting with Merrill's Marauders, he spent two years there recovering from his wounds. Following his time in Burma, Minewski studied for two years on the G.I. Bill in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere (1950-1952) and, independently, with Hans Hofmann in New York City (1952-1953). Hofmann was influential on his style and his work shifted away from a moody realism towards a fuller expressionism.

A substantial Impressionist oil painting showing two young women relaxing in a sunny garden with a peacock and a peahen.
Born in Bosnia, Anton Sipos began drawing at an early age and left home in his teens to work as a film animation artist. He achieved immediate success with his first work, "Surrogate", which won an Academy Award for best-animated short subject under the direction of Yugoslav animator Dushon VuKotic.
In 1964, Sipos moved to Montmartre to study at the École de Paris. During this early period, Sipos exhibited widely and with success including at the Salon d'Automne and Le Salon d'Artistes Françaises. While in France, he made numerous painting trips to Provence, Giverny, Rouen and the Cote d'Azur as well as to Italy.
In 1970, Sipos arrived in California where he painted landscapes of Los Angeles and marine scenes of the harbor in San Diego. A native of Rome, Carlo Mariani first studied there at the Academy of Fine Arts where he was influenced by the prevailing styles of Hyper-Realism and Conceptualism. In 1994, he moved to New York City where he began to paint figural landscapes in a traditional, neo-classical style. The 1990s brought Mariani wide recognition and numerous honors, as he represented Italy three times at the Venice Biennale. Additionally, in 1998, he received the prestigious Antonio Feltrinelli Award for lifetime achievement in painting.
Mariani continues to be best known for his refined and painterly, Renaissance technique. N.B. This is an original etching by Luigi Kasimir and is hand-signed by the artist.
The notable etcher and painter, Luigi Kasimir, attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under William Unger, who introduced him to colored etching. Kasimir was influenced by Anders Zorn and Karl von Kalckreuth and he furthered his studies with Sigmund L'Allemand.
A pioneer in the technique of hand-colored etching, Kasimir began exhibiting in 1905 and received immediate critical recognition. Starting with a sketch, usually in pastel, Kasimir would transfer the design, by hand, onto as many as six plates, applying the color by hand to each plate. Luigi Kasimir's work is held in private and public collections throughout the world including in the permanent collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum and Smithsonian Museum, among others.

Charles James Turrell was one of the most talented miniaturists of his age. Born in London, he studied under a Mr. Sargeant, perhaps Frederick Sargeant who exhibited at the Royal Academy, before visiting the United States in 1867 where he painted miniatures at the studio of photographer Napoleon Sarony. During this time, Turrell had distinguished sitters including members of the Vanderbilt, Whitney, and Morgan families. While in America, Turrell married and would go on to maintain successful careers in both New York and London where, in 1869, he opened a studio on Bond Street.
Turrell exhibited widely and with success including annually at the Royal Academy (1873-1904), the Society of Miniaturists (1873 – 1932), the Brooklyn Art Association (1868), the Pennsylvania Academy of Art (1901) and at the Paris Salons. His sitters included Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, and Queen Alexandra, when she was Princess of Wales (1884). In 1890, he was appointed official miniature painter to Queen Victoria. Turrell's work is held in the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace as well as in the permanent collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, London's Victoria & Albert Museum and the Mount Vernon Collection in Washington D.C., among others.

Termeh Yeghiazarian was born in Tehran and moved to the US in 1978. From 1991, she made San Francisco her home, becoming an active member of the Bay Area art scene as artist, teacher and activist.
Yeghiazarian received her BA from the Academy of Art and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She was involved in the creation of the San Francisco Art and Culture Committee and in the establishment of community gatherings and cultural events that included First Fridays, Salons and the production of plays by Golden Thread Productions of which she was a co-founder.

Born in Queens, New York, James Joseph DeMartis served with distinction in World War II and was decorated at the Battle of the Bulge. He subsequently attended painting classes at New York's Museum of Modern Art (1946-47) and, later, at the Art Students League of New York. He then enrolled at the California School of Fine Arts in Santa Monica, California until 1949, before leaving t study in Europe in 1950. He settled in Florence, Italy where he attended L’Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (1950-54). While continuing to study painting, he participated in several group and one-man shows in Italy and Switzerland.
In 1956, DeMartis returned to New York at the height of the American Abstract Expressionist movement. He settled with his new family in Brooklyn and, after participating in a series of grass-roots galleries opened with fellow artists, he opened the Armory Gallery and studio in Manhattan. He also exhibited in other Manhattan galleries and at the National Arts Club.
In 1961, De Martis was awarded the prestigious Emily Lowe Award for Painting. This led to to shows at the Ward Egglestone, ROKO, Pierantonio and Artemis West galleries from 1962-68. He then returned to Europe to participate in a group show in Florence. Upon his return, he opened the Brownstone Gallery in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, where he exhibited his own and others’ works until 1988.
James De Martis exhibited widely and with success including at one-man shows in Tokyo, Brooklyn, New York, Sarasota, Florida, San Francisco and Santa Fe.

Jack Wiboltt first trained at Copenhagen's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen before moving to New York in 1919. In 1924, he settled in California where he lived and painted in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. For 30 years, he practiced as an easel painter and was also commissioned to paint murals including for the 1939 exposition at San Francisco and for Hollywood's Fox Theater among others He exhibited widely and with success including at the Danish Royal Academy (1913), the New York World's Fair (1939), the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939) and the Pasadena Art Institute (1932) among others.
