Amandine Doré
Projet de Fontaine - Ink Drawing by A. Doré

1950s

About the Item

Projet de Fontaine is a lovely and fun drawing and China ink, probably a sketch for an illustration, realized by the French painter, illustrator, and writer Amandine Doré around the mid-20th century. On the lower right, the print is signed “Auréa”, one of her pseudonyms. On the higher right, “Page 31” is written; on the lower center, the number “120”; below, the title of the work; on the lower right, “Gio/R”. The inscriptions are all in pencil and are probably editorial and preparatory for the print of the illustration. The state of preservation is good, except for some fungal foxings spread throughout the paper. The drawing is humorous and represents a young beautiful nude woman with water gushing from her nipples in a large basin supported by four half-bust male figures looking like savages. Amandine Doré (Paris, 1912-2011) is one of the pseudonyms of Odette Amandine Bonne, who signed also as “Aurèa” or “Madame”, according to the type of subject matter of her artworks. Amandine was a French painter, illustrator, and writer. Her production varied from erotic to travel illustrations. With her fascinating drawings, she illustrated the classics of erotic literature, books of poetry, magazines, and most of her husband’s books (the Belgian author T’Serstevens, with whom she often travelled).
