In 2018, Steward has created two large public murals, “Breaker of Chains”, a 200’ by 6’ in height mural for the RTA in Cleveland and “Support” in Midtown on Detroit Avenue in Cleveland. A new mural project has been commissioned for SUMMA Health Care, Akron, Ohio. Stewards works are in the permanent collection of Art NEO, Akron Art Museum, Canton Art Museum of Art, Davis Art Museum at Wellesley College, Flint Institute of Arts, Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Eskenazi Museum of Art (Indiana University), Stanley Museum of Art (University of Iowa), CARTA, University of Delaware Museum, Swope Art Museum, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Summa Health Collection, Metro Health Hospital Collection, and the Federal Reserve Bank, Cleveland, Art Collection. In addition, Stewards works are in private collections from California to New York. Steward is the 2018 recipient of the The 2018 Emerging Artist Award of the Cleveland Arts Prize. Steward was chosen for the juried Front International, The Great Lakes Research, Cleveland Institute of Art, Reinberger Gallery, July 21st - August 4th, 2018 Stewards first museum exhibition, Our Separated Selves, recently closed at the Canton Museum of Art. The artist’s second one person museum exhibition Occupying A Space, opened at the Swope Art Museum opened on January 18 and closed on March 3, 2019. This major exhibition was displayed in three galleries and exhibited 54 works on paper. Kaywin Feldman, then Director of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, wrote the following commentary regarding a donation of Darius’s work. “As you well know, Steward uses his extraordinary skill as a watercolorist to add interest and drama to quotidian life. His vivid colors and unusual, eye-catching compositions will make his work a compelling presence in the museum’s galleries. I am particularly excited that this is the first work by Steward to enter Mia’s collection.” Kaywin assumed her new position as Director of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, on March 11, 2019. In 2021, Darius was commissioned to create a series of sculptures for the Cleveland Public Library Eastman Reading Garden in downtown Cleveland. This marks the artist’s first public sculpture project and a new direction for this creative output. “I often think of my kids when I think of progress. "Macbeth Stagecraft II" Pastel on Paper 10" x 12" in by Salah Abdel Kerim Born in Fayoum to a big family of 5 brothers and sisters. In 1938 he meets the famous painter Hussein Bikar and he becomes his student in the Faculty of Arts in Qena. He remained much attached to his professor all through his life. In 1940 he meets Hussein Youssef Amin and the Group of Contemporary Art at the secondary school of Farouk First in Abasya district in Cairo when he was introduced to surrealism for the first time. In 1943 he becomes a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduates with excellence and honors in 1947. In 1948 he becomes an assistant to the interior decoration section at the FFA. He is then sent to a mission in Paris in 1952 and he becomes a student to Paul Colin and A.Marie Cassandre for publicity and theatre design. He then moves to Rome in 1956 to study cinema design. In 1957 he received the international prize in painting from San Vito Romano, Italy, and obtains his Ph.D. from Centro Sperimental di Cinemato Grafia. Back in Egypt in 1958, he is appointed professor at the FFA where he started experimenting with his masterpieces sculptures in wrote iron...
