About the Item
This abstract painting by artist Christine Averill-Green is made with oil and mixed media on canvas. Blue, purple, and teal colors blend together beautifully and are juxtaposed by metallic gold paint embellishments, causing the painting to change in altering light. The artwork features organic line work and calming colors.
Averill-Green has been exhibiting her artwork in galleries and museums in Upstate New York for over 40 years. She received her B.A. in Art and an M.S. in Art Education. Artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Euan Eglow, Antonio Lopez Garcia, and her teachers Catherine Kehoe and Stanley Bielen have influenced Christine's artwork.
"Most of my work is influenced by medieval frescoes (the gold and color combinations) and Asian art (the simplicity)," Christine says of her work. "Above all, in every single painting I do, I abide by the words of Claude Monet: "When you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have before you, merely think here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow and paint it just as it looks to you."
