Although Jean Soyer has a fondness for the black and blue with notes of red on white background palette, so he used it for a number of pieces, this artwork is quite exceptional as it features a gradient from purple in the lower right corner to pure intense blue in the right of the canvas.

After studying the trades of engraving, lithographing and graphic designing at the École Supérieure des arts et industries graphiques, he built a career as a publicist. Soyer is mostly influenced by Nicolas de Staël, Georges Mathieu and Fabienne Verdier.
