This painting depicts a view of Aureille, a village in the French Alps. The artist wanted to conveys the atmosphere of evenings in this place, when the sky turns red, often making it look like oriental citadels with a strong contrast between the monochromic landscape and the vivid sky color.
With the artist words : "although land covers three-quarters of this piece, the remaining quarter is a glowing sky, saturated with scarlet red that is firing up and exalting [this] piece, creating its atmosphere. […] Under this enigmatic sky, the village and the arid soils both seem to belong to the mineral realm, because of the texture and stone colours of the piece. Graphic twists and turns represent life, water winding between the stones in this immobile, biblical landscape."
The artist mixed silk paper with the oil painting to achieve special reliefs effects.

Andrée de Frémont is a renowned French artist, well-known by art collectors, her artworks being appreciated and collected worlwide.
She has the honour to have her works chosen as models for Aubusson tapestry, by the prestigious Robert Four manufacture.
