A closer look at Malafouris’ paintings reveals a loose strand of
thread, forming a stroke around his works . His images, openly
influenced not only by the art movement of cubism, depict bodies
and objects conscientiously placed inside an indefinite spacetime.
Malafouris believes that «We are all souls, trapped in atmospheres».
Consequently, he creates art in order to intrigue our souls’ senses in a
forming allusion-illusion way.»
Painting is like eros, something magical which simply just happens to us, he says.
Indeed, through his art we fall in love with the artist’s truth, namely with the golden mean
between the traditional and the modern element. The very time the
viewer finds himself familiar with Malafouris’ art, reminiscing about
the artist’s prototypes (such as Magrit, Caravaggio and others), he is
made aware of the artist’s uniqueness within the field of art history by
the exceptional geometry and the refined aesthetics which admittedly
constitute his trademarks.
