Doreen Tighe
Lilies on the Lake original 18x24 impressionist landscape

About the Item

Artist Doreen Tighe interprets the classic impressionist lilies on a lake with the sun beaming brightly, not quite able to wash away nature's royal and aquamarine blues in the water nor take the pop out of the kelly green and olive leaves! In this original landscape oil painting the artist uses classic impressionist brushstrokes and impasto layering of her oil paints to enhance the translucence of the lake, the ever present reflections on the lake and the depth and breadth of the foliage. Following in the footsteps of her cousin and mentor famed southwestern artist Walter Gonske, Tighe's work is free flowing yet disciplined, often a la prima. Tighe studied and traveled with art guru Kevin McPherson after graduating from the prestigious New York Fashion Institute with a major in illustration. Tighe has shown her work from New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado to Georgia, New Jersey and Iceland. Her work is included in collections both domestic and abroad.

  • The Mill, First Slaughter, original impressionist English landscape
    By John Phillip Osborne
    Located in Spring Lake, NJ
Known for it's timeless charm, the quaint Cotswolds of England are what dreams are made of. First Slaughter, Upper and Lower Slaughter adjacent to Bourton-on-the-Water are such places! The Eye Brook weaves through the Slaughters, affectionately known as "the Slaughter;" the name was derived from the local marsh rather than what one might otherwise expect! This original impressionist landscape exemplifies the historical importance of the mill in these hamlets as well as the warm and inviting feeling of the region of Cotswolds, England. Also exemplifying the English countryside in this original impressionist landscape are the thatched rooves, architecture, rugged terraine and locals lingering, all seemingly frozen in time! Legendary artist John Phillip Osborne, applying many of the principles of the Barbizon school of art painters as well as classic impressionism, was the leading instructor of the highly regarded Ridgewood Art Institute of New Jersey for more than thirty four years. Osborne taught a generation of his students to go beyond the obvious in portraying their subject matter in a composition striving to capture the genuine overall feeling of the moment. He had graduated with honors from Pratt Institute of NYC and then continued his studies at the Art Students League, also of NYC. Original Osborne oil paintings...

Jules Van Biesbroeck was the son of Jules Evariste van Biesbroeck, a painter of Ghent, but was born in Italy, in Portici, near Naples, while his parents were staying there. (In the 19th century many artists made educational trips to Italy). It was a long visit: the child was two years old by the time the family returned to Ghent.[1] After a short period of practice with his father, van Biesbroeck was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. In 1888, when he was only 15 years old, he made his debut at the "Salon des Champs-Elysées" in Paris with his monumental work "The Launch of the Argo" (French: Le lancement...

In this prototypical oil painting, Walter Launt Palmer's title as "the painter of the American winter" can be vividly and brilliantly seen. As an impressionist painter that emerged at the turn of the 20th century, Palmer took great interest in the picturesque American landscape, though he particularly focused on the rendering of this landscape glistening with snow. His pictures evoke an unreplicable natural serenity, and in this oil painting "The Winter Scene...
