About

Lombard school of the eighteenth century Margherita Caffi (Cremona 1647 - Milan 1710), circle Still life of outdoor flowers oil on canvas (61 x 89 cm. - with frame 78 x 104 cm.) The present still life of flowers - of which the pendant is also available (lien) - is to be attributed to an exponent of the Lombard school of the eighteenth century and in particular, given the stylistic and formal parallels, is similar to the hand of Margherita Caffi (Milan 1647-1710) . The canvas brings together a vast sample of flowers such as roses, anemones, tulips and narcissus, characterized by a vibrant brightness and highlighted by the dark background. The material, particularly delicate in the transparencies and color variations of the different petals, is characterized by the use of a lively chroma and a skilful light effect. The painting is characterized by an extreme freedom of the pictorial drafting, an intertwining of free and lively brushstrokes by hand, typical of Caffi's pictorial style, showing in this sense also expressive affinities with Elisabetta Marchioni and with the enigmatic painter conventionally called Pseudo Look The painter was born in Cremona in 1647, daughter of the French painter Vincenzo Volò, active in Lombardy in the seventeenth century, assuming the surname of art by marrying at a young age with the Cremonese painter Ludovico Caffi, with whom she perhaps completed her training. She was then also active in Tuscany, where she worked and lived around the 1880s under the Medici patronage, a favorite of Vittoria Della Rovere, wife of Ferdinand II. Renowned and in demand throughout Europe, among her clients there were also the archdukes of Tyrol and the kings of Spain. Towards the beginning of the eighteenth century she moved definitively to Milan, where she gave life to a flourishing workshop, protagonist of the development of Baroque still life in Lombardy, knowing how to renew the figurative repertoire to satisfy the taste of late seventeenth-century Milanese collectors. STORAGE The canvas is in excellent condition, accompanied by a carved and gilded wooden frame, in excellent condition. The work, like all our objects, is accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity in accordance with the law.
