Original vintage railway travel poster - Visit Mont Saint Michel by train and coach - Besuchen Sie Den Mont Saint-Michel - featuring colourful artwork by the renowned graphic artist Bernard Villemot (1911-1989) depicting an aerial view of the island and surrounding blue water with a sailing boat at sea and the historic buildings leading from the sandy beach and fortified walls to the spire of the abbey church topped by a statue of the Archangel Michael. Located in Normandy France, Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island originally founded by an Irish hermit; this monastic island is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Good condition, restored pinholes, restored tears, staining, backed on linen.

Bernard Villemot
Villemot, one of the leading graphic designers in France during the post-war period, is regarded as one of France's most talented twentieth-century poster artists. He was the subject of retrospective exhibitions at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris between 1980 and 2000. Belonging to the movement that moved towards an international graphic style after the Bauhaus and de Stijl, Villemot's advertising clients included Air France, Perrier, Orangina, and Bergasol. His work is characterized by vivid colors, thin outlines, and abstract and organic forms.
