Alana Clumeck Art

Alana Clumeck was raised by artistic parents who owned a pottery studio during her youth. Although she grew up throwing pots, it wasn’t until she was pregnant with her second child that she began painting as creative therapy. For Clumeck, being an artist is entwined with motherhood. She works from her home studio, so she often paints while watching her children play. When the kids are at school, painting becomes precious meditative time alone. “Since my discovery of art came as a form of therapy, I still use it to paint out my thoughts or feelings,” says Clumeck. “I will often use symbolism within my paintings to represent how I feel.”

Artist: Alana Clumeck
Murmuration, Original Painting
By Alana Clumeck
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Alana Clumeck demonstrates a contemporary image of a herd of wild horses trotting across a plain. She pulls inspiration from a visit to her native homeland, Australia. "I was struck by the sheer volume of parrots flying in the sky," shares Alana. She combines inspiration from a mix of her two homes—the murmuration of the Australian budgerigar that shows up in the masses and a herd of galloping horses inspired by the western culture of the Santa Ynez Valley.

Artist Comments
Artist Alana Clumeck illustrates a diverse herd of horses in the wild west. "To create a pattern of horses, I cut out a horse shape and repeated the pattern across the canvas," shares Alana. She outlines each horse in oil pastel and then fills the shapes in with different neutral tones using acrylic paint. Leaving one horse to paint in full detail, she outlines it with red oil pastel so that it pops and stand apart from the rest.

The Edge of a Dream
By Alana Clumeck
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
The bison and the beetle have a prehistoric elegance about them that I thought would compliment each other perfectly. Symbolically, both represent life and mortality, which has been on my mind lately. To Native Americans, bison are symbolic of sacred life and abundance. And in ancient greek mythology the beetle became revered as a symbol of rebirth and immortality -- its daily journey across the sky became an allegory of human life. The Wallpaper collection is a juxtaposition of masculine meets feminine. I wanted to create a unique series that stands apart from traditional nature paintings, where the wild and somewhat prehistoric aspects of my animals featured contrast against their delicate backdrops. In addition to this, many of my paintings are created with a little bit of underlying symbolism usually sparked from a world event or life moment that I am experiencing. I concentrate on this theme as a therapeutic mantra throughout the creation of the painting. For each painting, different techniques and layers of design are implemented when creating the wall paper effect. To keep the patterns consistent I create a stencil to outline the shapes of my hummingbirds, bugs and fish, and then I hand paint each shape individually. In the areas where I wanted a little more chaos, I would forgo the stencil and eyeball each design. My animals are always painted first, and then I layout the design around them.

French Barbizon School oil on canvas painting of cattle in a landscape by Pablo Martinez, second half of the 19th century. This French plein air painting features an exquisite depiction of Cattle, painted in the Romantic tradition of The Barbizon School, lead by the charismatic Camille Corot. The artists of the movement explored the vast possibilities of plein-air painting, in the mesmerizing forest of Fontainebleau, in the south or Paris. French Outsider Art Brut Mixed Media Zinc Assemblage Sculpture Collage Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Mixed media assemblage sculpture/painting. Hand signed and dated recto and verso. Provenance: Galerie Alphonse Chave, bears their label verso Michel, Fernand (1913-1999) Born in 1913 in Neuviller-lès-Badonviller in the Vosges, Fernand Michel began working at the age of twelve in a Landes pottery factory. When his mother died, he went to live in Alsace with an aunt and became an art bookbinder. A lover of poetry, he bonded with Jean Vodaine, Jean Dubuffet and Alphonse Chave (Alphonse Chave was an art lover, dealer and collector. On November 15, 1947 in Vence, under the name Les Mages, he opened a contemporary art gallery which would also become a high place of art brut and unique art . The gallery took its final name - Galerie Alphonse Chave - in 1960. He exhibited Dado, Philippe Dereux, Jean Dubuffet, Max Ernst, Henri michaux, Louis Pons, Man Ray, Dorothea Tanning, Zao Wou-ki as well as other creators.) Around 1962, he began carving zinc after finding a plaque in a landfill. From this period, he made numerous assemblies, most often of large dimensions, which he called "zinc works" where buxom bathers, Venus callipyges, nuns and holy nitouches rub shoulders. The corroded and battered material over the years, used as is, gives his works a certain harshness, however softened by more ornamental pieces. Fernand Michel lived in Montpellier. He died in 1999. His work is present in the collection of La Fabuloserie in Dicy. Publications Revue "Création Franche" N ° 16, November 1998 Catalog "Donation Claude Massé", March 1999 Catalog "Collection Création Franche - 1989-2010", September 2010 Revue "Création Franche" N ° 38, June 2013 Franche Creation, Special Issue N ° 2, April 2015 His son Patrick Michel's collection is housed in Montpellier in the Musee d’arts brut, singulier and autres. "I used to accompany my father to his exhibitions since he was exhibited every year at the Galerie Chave in Vence. I still remember that Alphonse Chave once offered me a little toy (a car!) from his shop. I therefore met the artists Philippe Dereux, Armand Avril, François Ozenda, Pascal Verbena, Louis Pons, Jean Vodaine, Henri Comby, Fred Deux and Eugène Gabritschevsky- I took the decision to create the museum in order to save (and protect) my father’s work- my father was often classified under the ‘Art Brut’ label but in fact he belonged to the ‘Singular Art’ label... The term Art Brut exists since Jean Dubuffet gave it to us in 1945, covering self-taught and marginalised artists..The terms Outsider Art and Art Brut are fine with me- I place Nek Chand...

City Flight. Elegant and unique hanging wall art
By Arozarena De La Fuente
Located in Mexico City, MX
The two artists and industrial designers, Ampi Arozarena and Elena De La Fuente describe form and color as their core of exploration. They admire the dual identity the two elements create in their works of art. They are driven by the optical and physical sensation materials become on their unique canvasses. Projected shadows upon their work are also an important factor, this effect is generated in these two works with a 3D abstract placement of the main elements. It´s unique and neutral colors are also very easy to combine in any surrounding. Mexican Contemporary Art Modern Elegant Wall-art Modern Hanging Sculpture...

Outsider Art Wall Sculpture: 'It's Time'
By Gerard Cambon
Located in New York, NY
Gérard Cambon was born in 1960 in Toulouse (Fr). He has a degree in political science and is a self-taught artist. In the earlier years of his life practiced and experimented with collage and model making. Later, with an interest in old machines and patinas he started collecting old and used objects, tools, and fragments of items whose previous lives remained obvious. When he travels, one of his greatest pleasures is to find materials in antique shops or ironmongeries. In 1994, he began creating Locomobiles and reliefs and presented them to the public for the first time at “La Jeune Peinture,” a Parisian art fair. In 1995 , he stayed during 8 months in the hospital for eight months (leukaemia) where he began preparing and creating plans for new Locomobiles and reliefs. As his health improved, he committed himself to his artwork and during the same year met a Parisian gallery owner who decided to organize a solo show for him, Le Galerie Beatrice Soulie in Saint Germain des Pres. He has shown his work since 1996 in Paris and since 2000 in the United States (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle). He is currently being shown by galleries in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg , Denmark, and the United States. He keeps on trying out new materials (fabric, leather, glass, plants, metals,…) that he integrates into his bas-reliefs: traction engines...
