One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.
At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.
De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.

Where the St. Lawrence River Mon-treal flows in a serpentine pattern, a residential complex marked by the architectural style of brutalism rises up on a small headland – the famous Habitat 67. 354 concrete blocks arranged in a stepped pattern adorn a part of Montreal’s multifaceted skyline, designed by architect Moshe Safdie for Expo 67. Not far from this memorable silhouette grew up Philippe Malouin, who was inspired by these forms of brutalism through-out his life. After Malouin received the call from de Sede and initial ideas were exchanged, the designer was largely given a free hand and Malouin started his work “by making things”. Simply drawing, cutting or even folding different materials are part of the creation of the new sculpture DS-707. Philippe Malouin experimented with folding foam for the Swiss manu-facturer - the result: a modular sofa system with a traditional yet con-temporary aesthetic. Carried by the sweeping serpentines of the river, the idea for a sculpture that fuses into one form was born in the London studio near the Thames. The masterpiece DS-707 is a homage to classic de Sede designs and was created for the future.

Opulent elements for modular use. The architectural structure of DS-21 is created by a metal frame that surrounds individual cushion volumes, seemingly carrying them effortlessly. The opulent elements counteract the clear lines of the frame. They function as modules that can be relocated. DS-21 comes in different upholstery combinations, with leather or fabric covers, and in three different frame widths with matt black or high-gloss chrome-plated metal legs. An armchair rounds out this family of seats. The DS-21 range is complemented by coffee tables and side tables with glass tops in different versions.
This sculpture looks as if it has always stood there. A statement, essentially: I’ve been here forever. And yet: the proportions seem fresh and new, unused and inviting, Classic and modern. DS-21 is the work of Stephan Hürlemann. The Appenzell native studied architecture at ETH Zurich and was the partner of designer Hannes Wettstein, after whose death in 2008 he took over as creative director of the world-renowned Zurich studio. Feet up and just unwind – our DS-80 relocates sleep to the daytime hours, the time when we are supposed to be active and getting things done. Its subtle appearance reminds us to take a relaxing break from our hectic everyday lives once in a while – and that’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of.
The modest dimensions of the daybed are a benefit here, as they gently force you to spend some time on your own. Part of the basic furnishings of any upscale interior in the 1920s, the flat daybed has been enjoying a Renaissance for several years now.
Our daybed caused a stir more than 30 years ago, with its elaborate patchwork processing and freely placeable back cushions. This timeless Classic has now been gently updated. It is available both as a daybed and as a small lounge sofa, too.

Be it sitting, sleeping, dining or relaxing – thanks to its essence of excellence, this all-rounder offers optimum functionality: with a few easy flicks of the wrist, the armrests can be tilted independently of each other and the soft seating surfaces enlarged. The exposed back lends DS-747 its lightness as a small sculpture with a high function – a sofa created to sit not on but in.
A marvel in three dimensions, DS-747 is perfectly suited for small spaces or city apartments. If visitors spontaneously decide to stay longer, this elegant yet compact sofa offers an outstand-ing place to sleep – the armrests can be folded down with a few very easy flicks of the wrist. The leather is elaborately crafted by hand in a patchwork appearance – for an individually stylish look. The sofa landscape consists of single cubic elements that can be combined with one another in infinite ways. Cushions with an elongated design need no attachment to stay on the sofa and can be moved around in flexible ways. We launched this favorite sofa back in 1975. Now, nearly 45 years later, we are celebrating its comeback.

Standard configuration: Seat element in a patchwork look, connectors can be used to combine the individual seating elements to create custom sofa landscapes.
