French Empire Figurative Gilt Bronze Clock of a Roman Youth Holding a Scroll

About the Item

A French Empire figurative clock of a Roman youth holding a scroll in gilded bronze showing a seated classically draped youth sitting atop the clock case holding a lyre in one hand and a scroll in the other. The rectangular lower section of the case is decorated with wreaths and musical instruments. The gilded dial has painted Roman numerals and black Breguet hands and is signed ‘Rossel a Rouen’. The original silk-string suspension movement rings the hours and halves on a bell.
