19th Century French Bronze and Ormolu Clock Garniture

About the Item

A fine quality late 19th century French bronze and ormolu garniture, the 8-day striking enamelled dial movement by AD Mougin - Paris, contained in ormolu case with bronze winged cherub writing on a scroll, ending on white marble plinth base. Accompanied by a pair of bronze and ormolu 2-light Candelabra, held by bacchanalian putti, raised on similar white marble plinth bases. Candelabra: Height 16 ins (41cms), width 8 ins (20.5cms), depth 3.5 ins (9cms). Further Information: Adolphe Mougin was a famous clockmaker in Paris, during the last quarter of the 19th Century. He supplied wheels and mechanical parts to other clockmakers and companies such as Japy Freres & Cie, who then completed the works in their shops. He exhibited at the Paris World's Fair in 1889 where he won a bronze medal. He finally won a silver medal at the Paris World's Fair in 1900. His company was later named Societe Les Fils de Adolphe Mougin which went out of business in 1928.
