Antique Gilt Bronze Buddha Sculptures from Laos/Thailand
About the Item
Late 19th century - beautifully preserved coloring.
Dimensions of taller: 33 inches tall (price $4,600).
Dimensions smaller: 22.5 inches tall (price $3,300).
This Buddha in standing position was executed in a typical Laotian style, which features a slim and elongated body and extremely serene facial expression. His hands are in the gesture of double Abhaya mudra. This mudra symbolizes the act of dispelling fear in the face of adversity.

This abstract figural sculpture is extremely detailed. Mr. Pattison was educated at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, Yale and the Yale School of Fine Arts. (B. 1916 - 1999) In 1939, he was granted Yale's first traveling fellowship, enabling him to study and work in China and Japan for 12 months. Mr. Pattison's many other prestigious prizes included the Logan, Eisendrath, and Pauline Palmer Awards from the Art Institute of Chicago.
