"The Laborer, " Rare Art Deco Hungarian Bronze

About the Item

Sculpted by Mihaly Biro, this bronze (dating from 1928-29) is the small version of a large-scale monument commissioned by the Bratislava Cable company, commemorating the workers who made the industry hum. (Originally, the figure would have been pushing a volt fuse.) The musculature of the figure's back and arms are beautifully detailed, and the piece is a paean to those who made 20th century industry possible.
