The gorgeous French vase was made in the Art Deco style; it has a simple and essential design with pleasing soft and harmonious lines; the artifact was produced between 1930 and 1935 in France in a small artisan workshop in the Marais area, one of the most historically rich neighborhoods of Paris, where the workshops of artists and artisans were the soul of the neighborhood itself; the vase features the characteristic and engaging craquelé workmanship; craquelure in painting is the dense network of cracks that forms on the surface of paintings; it is often used to determine the age of a painting and thus uncover possible fakes. The decorating industry, towards the end of the eighteenth century, when the trend was to decorate with objects with a strong reference to antiquity, invented the craquelé aging technique to offer it in the making of a wide variety of objects and materials such as ceramics and glass. This technique can be done by a chemical method, acting on the object's enamel with special products that evenly etch it with a reticulated effect; but the best method is the Japanese processing technique called Raku, which involves a special type of firing the enamel at high temperatures that are then cooled by quickly removing it from the kiln. This process, in which certain times and temperatures must be carefully and precisely observed, inevitably creates craquelé effect cracks on the enameled surface; the raku technique makes it possible to create objects of unique and unrepeatable design and has therefore often been used by designers and artists to create original and fascinating pieces; these objects are also highly appreciated by those who love natural textures as they are very reminiscent of the effect of water-poor earth typical of desert areas. Our vase thus tells us a small piece of history, is a highly decorative object, attracts attention, and can be placed in any type of decor. The vase is in good condition, but the body has very small holes and surface stains (see photo), but these are not defects, but an effect that normally occurs in this particular type of workmanship.
