Monumental Royal Dux Art Nouveau Vase Early 20th Century
About the Item
A monumental Royal Dux Bohemia porcelain vase, featuring a beautiful maiden standing under a grapevine, with a large bird. The base of the vase featuring frolicking putti. Typical Art Nouveau motifs throughout, stylized incised lines and pale pink tree blossoms on three sides.
Stamped with the pink, triangular Royal Dux Bohemia E mark under the base, and signed Thun on the base.
Lovely porcelain biscuit highlighted with polychrome accents in shades of green, pink and umber.
This vase is spectacular from any angle and in near perfect condition. Small repair to one of the leaves near the top and tiny chips to another- please see photos.

Royal Dux Bohemia
Royal Dux is a porcelain company based in the Czech Republic that manufactures figurines, vases and other ceramics and objects in neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles. Some of the company’s most popular pieces include the Bohemia centerpiece as well as their Elephant figurine.
A member of the Czech Porcelain Group, Roya Dux has produced its brand of figural and decorative porcelain works since 1853. Model expert Eduard Eichler established the company in Duchov, Bohemia, in 1860 and ran Royal Dux Bohemia until his death in 1887, recreating historical designs from England, Denmark and France. At the start of the 20th century, the company enjoyed remarkable success thanks to the works of the designer Alois Hampel.
Royal Dux porcelain pieces are designated by their trademark pink triangle, which serves as a certificate of authentication. The company enjoyed a renaissance in 1958 owing to the display of Jaroslav Ježek’s collection at the world exhibition in Brussels that year.
In 1992, the Duchov factory rebranded itself as Royal Dux.

This is a stunning Wedgwood lustre vase, circa 1914, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones. The flared form vase has an iridescent overglaze on a pale blue ground, and is decorated with intricately detailed, swirling dragons in gold on all four sides. The inside of the vase has a gilded border featuring Oriental scenes of pagodas and gardens, below which are four mythical birds which seem to float in magical suspension over the pale green glaze of the interior.
Daisy Mekeig-Jones apprenticed at Wedgwood in 1909 and only two years later, by 1911, she had started to create her own designs at the factory. In 1913 she started designing the Oriental dragon patterns seen here, and by 1915 she had begun the Fairyland lustre ware for which she would become famous. These designs became incredibly popular and helped boost the company's success after the first world war.
