English Ralph Stevenson ‘Windsor Castle’ Red Transferware Dinner Plates, set/4

About the Item

A set of four British Romantic themed transfer printed dinner plates in the pattern known as ‘Windsor Castle.’ Made by Ralph Stevenson & Son, Cobridge, Staffordshire, England, circa 1810-1835. In the ‘Lace Border’ series, the center image shows Windsor Castle, flying the flag to show the Monarch is in residence. A lake with sailing boats is in the foreground, surrounded by trees. A floral border with a lace-like background gives this series of patterns it’s name. A bittersweet red on an off-white body. Made of earthenware with an underglaze tissue printed transfer, marked with a cartouche showing the pattern name and R.S. the initials of the maker. Measures: 9.5 inches in diameter x 1.0 inches high. Some light wear to the rims, as expected.
