H.B. Boulenger Choisy-Le-Roi Raviers En Barbotine Majolica Hor d’Oeuvres Server

About the Item

A French majolica ravier by H.B. Boulanger, Choisy le Roi, France, circa 1880 – 1890. A ravier is a small, deep, oblong dish in which appetizers or hors-d’œuvres are served. This shape is difficult to find, especially in this pattern. The brown glazed oval handled dish shows a layered pattern of overlapping ferns beneath a single large leaf glazed in shades of green. Green stems of five petaled pink flowers are tied with a purple bow. The beaded rim and handles are outlined in yellow ochre. Strong clear color on the front contrasts with a pale turquoise ground to the verso. Marked: Choisy le Roi, with an impressed H.B. & C. for Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie. (1836-1892). 9.5 in. L. x 5.25 in. W x 1.5 in H Multiple raviers are available in excellent antique condition.
