Wedgwood Majolica Tortoise Glazed Scallop-Shell Seafood Server, 1889

About the Item

From Wedgwood, an English majolica scallop shell shaped seafood serving dish, date marked 1889. Showing the mottled tortoiseshell glazing of greens, amber, and brown. The mold reflects Josiah Wedgwood’s preference for the naturalistic style in the Aesthetic taste. A fabulous iridescent finish! The verso shows patches of brown on a cream ground glazing with an applied footing. 8 in. L x 8 in. W x 1.5 in. H Impressed Wedgwood with the date cipher R for 1889. Very good antique condition.
