Antique Victorian 1888 Sterling Silver Tea Tray by Walter & John Barnard

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver engraved tea tray made by Walter & John Barnard; an addition to our silver tray collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver tray has an oval form. The surface of the tray is encircled with exceptional band of bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration, incorporating four circular cartouches to the cardinal points. The surface is further embellished with bright cut engraved floral bud festoons, suspended from quatrefoil shaped floral motifs and composing a shaped cartouche to the centre. The central cartouche displays the contemporary engraved initials 'EAS'. The raised rounded border of the tray is encircled with fine and impressive applied reed decoration to the rim. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with a fine and impressive pair of cast sterling silver handles ornamented with leaf terminals and further reed decoration to the handpieces. This exceptional Victorian silver tray was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Walter & John Barnard. Condition This antique Victorian silver tray is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast and applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray are all very clear.
