Antique English Porcelain Dish Hand Painted with Flowers 19th Century Circa 1830

About the Item

The dish is hand-painted with perfect pink and purple roses and a fabulous orange eastern poppy. Around the center is a band of gilt. The border has impressed decoration of flowers and scrolling vines. It is an altogether lovely decoration. Coalport made the dish circa 1830, with a Coalport mark on the reverse (see the last image). Dimensions: 8.5" x .75 height Condition: Excellent with the very slightest rubbing to the enamels Price: $240 Background of Coalport Porcelain: In Shropshire, England, Coalport was a center of porcelain and pottery production beginning in 1795 when John Rose founded the Coalport Porcelain factory. The opening in 1792 of the Coalport Canal, which joins the River Severn at Coalport, had increased the site's attractiveness, and from 1800 until a merger in 1814, two factories were operating, one on each side of the canal. Both factories made mostly tablewares with elaborate hand-painted overglaze decoration with floral subjects. In 1819 a merger with another factory brought molds and skilled staff from Nantgarw Porcelain and Swansea Porcelain to Coalport.
