Modern Pottery by Suzy Goodelman for Craft Associates Furniture, 1912-SG

About the Item

Designer: Suzy Goodelman Distributor: Craft Associates Furniture Period/Model: New Specs: Clay Dimensions: H 8.5" (43.18cm) W 6.5" (16.51cm) D 6.5" (16.51cm) This modern pottery by Suzy Goodelman for Craft Associates Furniture - 1912-SG is expertly hand built and crafted in NYC. This pottery line is exclusive to Craft Associates Furniture. All of these pieces are hand built and one of a kind. No two are ever exactly the same. Suzy primarily uses coiling and pinching for her pottery. These hand building techniques allow her to create the forms and textures she desires, and they naturally leave traces of finger marks over the entire surface. These finger marks become another element in the texture. Craft Associates Furniture is proud each modern piece is made in the US. We strive to craft a product and work with people who make product that will stand the test of time. We stand 100% behind our product. "I love that clay is ancient. I love that it comes from the ground and that all the materials I use were once in the earth. I love that the ceramic process uses the four alchemical elements - earth, air, fire and water - and is literally transformational. I love that it teaches me over and over to surrender my expectations and ideas of being in control." - Suzy Goodelman history Suzy Goodelman is a NYC native. She studied art and graphic design at Pratt Institute and School of Visual Arts, and then worked professionally as a graphic artist for many years, most notably with the Swedish design firm of Hall and Cederquist. This experience of Swedish design with its simple, clean lines and peaceful, empty space had a large influence on her aesthetic and artistic style. In 1999 she took up ceramics and found a creative expression that felt natural to her. In the course of her studies she discovered the world of Japanese and Korean pottery, and had an immediate and heartfelt response to the Asian ceramic aesthetic. She found that both the Swedish and Asian design sensibilities with their qualities of simplicity and serenity were, in her mind, quite compatible. These influences inform much of her work. Greenwich House Pottery has been Suzy’s ceramics home, haven, and main place of education. Having grown up in Greenwich Village, she always knew of GHP and, after taking a rudimentary beginning hand building class at a place in her neighborhood, knew it was time to go there. Suzy started taking classes at GHP in 2000 as a beginner and remains there to this day. After interning for a couple of years, she joined the staff in 2009, and in 2013 joined the faculty to start teaching. All throughout these teaching years she continued taking classes. It remains her studio to this day, and her staff position at GHP allows for 24 hour access to a beautifully equipped work space - a real luxury in Manhattan.
