Antique English Sterling Silver Wax Jack
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual antique George V English sterling silver wax jack; an addition of our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George V sterling silver wax jack has a square shaped form onto four legs.
The wax jack has a central column surmounted with an unusual capital comprised of a cast sterling silver sprung hinged wick trimmer, accented with an inset circular taper holder to the center of the blades.
This scissor component is embellished with engraved simplified foliate designs.
The lower portion of the wax jack features a scalloped square base accented with further scrolling engraved designs.
This antique silver wax jack is fitted with a cast silver elongated handle to one side embellished with further engraved foliate designs, in addition to the contemporary engraved initials 'I.Z.' to the handpiece.
The wax jack is fitted with four cast legs terminating with plain trefoil shaped feet.
The wax jack retains the original wax coil.
This exceptional example of antique silverware was crafted by Charles & Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd.
Condition
This antique silver wax jack is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and part hallmarks to the scissor handle are all very clear; the maker's mark to the scissor handle has worn in keeping with age and use.

These impressive antique American sterling silver tapersticks have an octofoil panelled form, replicating the details of a Classic English George I style. The plain panelled waisted cylindrical capitals are encircled with protruding scalloped borders to the rims. Each plain waisted column bears a panelled bulbous knop to the upper portion and further scalloped decoration to the lower. The columns surmount octagonal shaped, incurved bases with a sunken well and plain collet style rim. Each candlestick does not have a weighted base. The underside of each base bears the maker's mark 'James Robinson' and 'sterling' standard mark. Condition These antique tapersticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
