Early 20th century sterling silver bowl designed by Roger Williams, retailed by Spaulding Co. Designed with scrolls, foxes' head around rim, and grape clusters and grape leaves. Measuring 11 3/4 inches in diameter, weighing 33.65 troy ounces. Bearing hallmarks as shown in images.
Roger Williams Silver Co. was a Providence-based silver company active at the beginning of the 20th century, which was a successor to Howard and one of the founding companies of Mount Vernon Co. which was bought by prestigious maker Gorham in 1913.
Founded in 1888 by Henry A. Spaulding, Spaulding & Co., a Chicago-based firm, was owned by Gorham in the late 1920s to 1943. Well known as a jewelry retailer, Spaulding & Co. also manufactured and retailed sterling hollowware.
