2 French Plaster Shell Chandeliers / Pendants by Jean Charles Moreux, 1930

About the Item

Rare French mid-century dramatic plaster pendants / chandeliers in the form of three intersecting sea shells by Jean Charles Moreux (1889-1956). Moreux was the first interior designer to bring the outdoors to the indoors and to pioneer the use of naturalistic, animal and sea life forms in design. These fixtures symbolize the work of this important French artist. In addition, they give beautiful light from three Edison sockets that direct light upward on ceiling and down walls. Height of adjustment of chains is variable according to need, (22" in photos). Priced and sold individually. Literature: Similar model in Jean-Charles Moreux, Susan Day, Editions Norma, Paris,1999, p.346. References: Surrealism, Jean Cocteau, Bolette Nathanson, Naturalism. Mid-Century Modern.
