Large Monumental 3-Tier 36-Light Italian Neoclassic Chandelier with Gold Leaf
About the Item
An exceptionally large 3-tier mid-century chandelier was made in Italy. This neo-classic chandelier was made from the best materials available. It is mostly gold leaf gilded and decorated with numerous crystal leaves. Each arm ends with a bobeche with a crystal-cut candleholder on top. (A bobeche is a bowl on a chandelier, sconce, or candelabra with the historical purpose of catching the dripping wax from a candle.) All parts adjoining the crystal cut parts were finished with silver leaf to enhance the brightness of the crystal. The chandelier ends with a large crystal-cut bowl with a silvered interior. The piece has a classic shape with its curved arms, acanthus decoration, and crystal leaves. The first tier features 16 arms and has a diameter of 51 inches, the second tier features 12 arms and the top tier 8. The chandelier is in very good condition with great patina.
