Stunning Plexiglass Light Sculpture in the Style of Ugo La Pietra, 1970, Italy
About the Item
Rare and wonderful light sculpture in the style of important Italian Avant Garde artist Ugo La Pietra. This wall lamp clearly takes its cue from Ugo La Pietra's 'strutturazioni tissurali' studies of the mid-1960s where incised patterns were cut into plexiglass objects to capture and hold light in a magical way. Please see image 10 which shows an extremely rare Ugo La Pietra ceiling lamp dating from 1968 which features a very similar form also with incised lines.
This light sculpture works on the same principal, a series of concentric circular rings are incised into a beautiful heat moulded plexiglass semi sphere with flat edges, the incised lines hold and capture the light creating a beautiful optical lighting effect.
The light bulb is easly changed by removing the four elegant stainless steel fastenings in each corner .
