20th ROCHE BOBOIS FRANCE Louis XVI style WALL MIRROR

About the Item

Outstanding and really gorgous mirror made by a French master craftsman, following the extraordinary mirrors Louis XIV (1643 – 1715). Made of finely carved , gilded and silver wood with an aged effect. Body with a quadrangular profile and an exuberant forelock at the top. These two parts present the typical elements of Louis XIV mirrors. The main body presents a double corridor, the interior with smaller mirrors. In addition, ornaments in the corners and half of each side that enhance its shape. In the upper part, a large crest develops, which presents in its central area the cup of abundance, framed by a multitude of rockeries that create a kind of ephemeral architecture. Floral elements scattered throughout the set and a large fleshy acanthus leaf that crowns it. It has an extraordinary high quality!!! It comes from the Roche Bobois collection. SXX A great opportunity to have an amazing French mirror!!! About Louis XIV mirrors During the reign of Louis XIV it was Bernard Perrot (1640-1709), a glazier from Orléans, who invented poured flat glass that made it possible to produce flat glass on a large area of just over 1 meter. Thanks to this, Colbert will create in 1665 the first real French manufacture of mirrors. Mirrors supported by richly sculpted and gilt frames are then produced. Original creations by a large number of craftsmen and personalities were made for the decoration of royal and aristocratic residences, the most prestigious being the design of the halls of mirrors, Versailles, ceremonial rooms of Marly, Chambord, Fontainebleau.
