Vintage Original Aviation Drawing Depicting Three Different Biplane WWI Aircraft
About the Item
Watercolor, pastel and pencil depicting three different biplane airplanes, drawn by Riccardo Cavigioli in the early 1920s. Lower half 1= two-seat biplane for reconnaissance Lloyd C I, 41 series, developed in 1914. Upper half from left: 2= two-seat biplane for reconnaissance Aviatik B II, 33.06 series, produced in 1915. 3= two-seat biplane for reconnaissance Lohner B VII, 17.85 series, built in 1916; aircraft equipped with an Austro Daimler 160 hp engine and rear gun-machine. Measure with frame cm 85 x 80 - inches 34 x 32.
Riccardo Cavigioli was born in Milan on 10th November 1895 and he died in Gavirate (VA) on 27th May 1975; he was much decorated during the First War World, and he was an aviation writer, draftsman and illustrator for important advertising campaigns; his water-colours were shown for the first time to in Turin Exhibition in 1928 and they are an important historical report. He contributed to aeronautical magazine and he published in 1934 the treatise “Austro-Hungarian aviation on Italian front in 1915-1918”, an important work for knowledge about history of Italian aviation.
